The Yobe State Government has swiftly dismissed rumors of an alleged eviction notice issued by Boko Haram to residents in the Gujba Local Government Area. Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), special adviser on security matters, made this clarification following a state security council meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Gubana in Damaturu on Wednesday.
Abdulsalam reassured the public that there was no truth to the claims and emphasized that the government, along with security agencies, remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting communities across the state. “There is no credible intelligence suggesting that Boko Haram has issued any eviction notice to residents of Gujba or anywhere else in Yobe,” he stated, urging citizens to continue their daily activities without fear.
The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Osun, also reinforced the security measures in place to ensure peace and order during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. “We have reviewed the state’s security framework and are prepared to ensure a peaceful festive period,” Osun said. He also encouraged parents and guardians to monitor their children to prevent any reckless behaviour.
The Security Council expressed gratitude to traditional rulers and community leaders for their ongoing efforts in promoting peace and resolving conflicts in the region. With these reassurances, Yobe residents can now breathe easy, knowing that the state government is closely monitoring security concerns and is committed to their safety.
