In a major achievement for Nigeria’s refining sector, the United States has imported over two million barrels of jet fuel from the Dangote refinery in March. This significant milestone underscores the exceptional quality of products coming from one of Africa’s most advanced refineries, with the global market now recognizing the Dangote refinery’s capacity to compete at the highest levels.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, the refinery confirmed that six vessels carrying approximately 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel from Dangote arrived at U.S. ports this month. Additionally, another vessel, Hafnia Andromeda, is scheduled to dock at the Everglades terminal on March 29, bringing an extra 348,000 barrels of jet fuel to the U.S.
With its impressive capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote refinery is rapidly positioning itself as a key player in global fuel trading. The shipments to the U.S. could disrupt traditional fuel trading dynamics, establishing Nigeria as a new swing supplier in the Atlantic Basin. This achievement follows recent exports of jet fuel to Saudi Arabia, showcasing the refinery’s growing influence in the global energy market.
Dr. Muda Yusuf, economist and CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprises, expressed his pride in Nigeria’s achievement, highlighting the significance of exporting to the U.S. market. “For Nigeria to now produce fuel products trusted by the U.S. – a country with some of the highest standards – is a source of immense pride. It demonstrates that Nigeria can now compete with the best in the global refining industry,” he said.
This landmark deal not only bolsters Nigeria’s global standing but also marks the Dangote refinery as a force to be reckoned with in the international oil and gas market.
