Rome, Italy – April 26, 2025 — In a major diplomatic shift, French President Emmanuel Macron revealed that Ukraine is ready to agree to an unconditional ceasefire, placing the burden of the next move squarely on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After a high-level meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome, Macron posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling the conversation “very positive” and stressing that both nations are actively seeking a path to peace.
“Ending the war in Ukraine, that is the goal we share with President Trump,” Macron said, highlighting a unified front among Western allies.
According to Macron, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s willingness to halt hostilities without preconditions. The French leader emphasized that it is now up to Putin to demonstrate whether he genuinely wants peace or intends to prolong the devastating conflict.
“President Zelenskyy reiterated this to me today. Ukraine is ready. Now, the world is waiting on Putin,” Macron declared.
France Backs Ukraine Through the Coalition of the Willing
Macron also confirmed France’s continued support through the Coalition of the Willing, a diplomatic effort initiated in Paris to align global partners on a ceasefire and long-term peace in Ukraine.
“We will continue our efforts within the Coalition of the Willing launched last March to achieve both this ceasefire and a complete, lasting peace in Ukraine,” he stated.
