In a major crackdown on crime, the Ogun State Police Command has raided a notorious criminal hideout along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the arrest of three suspects. The operation, which lasted for two hours, was part of an intensified security effort following reports of an armed robbery attack and a fatality at the Sagamu interchange.
On Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, led a thorough assessment of the area, uncovering illegal trading activities and the presence of touts, which have been linked to the rising crime in the area. The operation also led to the discovery of a criminal hideout in a nearby bush, where three individuals were arrested.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the operation, stating that it followed reports of a deadly incident on March 21, 2025, involving an individual who was attacked and later died from injuries sustained under a bridge in the area. Although no formal complaint had been made to the police, the incident prompted a swift response from the authorities.
In addition to the arrests, the police force has deployed personnel from the Quick Response Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 to strategic locations around the interchange. This includes under the bridge, key roundabouts, and the entrances to major routes. The aim is to maintain a visible and effective security presence to deter criminal activities.
As part of the crackdown, illegal trading under the interchange bridge was immediately disbanded, and efforts to redirect traffic to well-lit and secure areas were put into place, in collaboration with local transport unions. The Commissioner of Police emphasized that while Ogun State remains relatively peaceful, citizens must remain vigilant and take precautions to avoid falling victim to crime.
For commuters, CSP Odutola recommended early planning of travel routes to reduce exposure to potential security risks. With enhanced security measures in place, the police are working closely with other security agencies to ensure the safety of Ogun State’s highways.
“We urge citizens to stay alert and cooperate with the authorities to help maintain safety on our roads,” Odutola concluded, reassuring the public that the ongoing efforts to secure the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will continue with the full support of Governor Ogun State.
