The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two Nollywood actors in Owerri, the state capital. The actors died after eating rice and drinking wine during a hangout on Friday.
Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye said two other people were also affected and are now being treated in the hospital.
Yes, the Command is aware of the case. Two people were confirmed dead, and two are in the hospital, he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a medical test on the bodies to find out what caused their deaths.
What Happened?
The incident happened at a gathering hosted by a movie director. A source, Kaito Karisia, said the director gave them food and drinks before going to bed.
Later in the night, he woke up to switch the power supply and found that two of the actors were already dead, while the other two were struggling to breathe.
All four were rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, where two were confirmed dead.
Survivors Speak
One of the survivors said they were served rice, Calypso, and wine. According to him, everyone tasted the drink, but only the two late actors finished it.
Police Investigate
Police are now testing the food and drink to check if it was poisoned. The bodies of the two actors will also be examined.
The test results will help decide what to do next, Okoye added.
