In a bold move to reshape the future of Niger Delta youths, the Nigerian Navy has launched an initiative to tackle illegal activities while promoting career growth and community development. On Wednesday, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos hosted a career talk for the youth in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta, offering hope, guidance, and essential services for a brighter tomorrow.
The event, organized as part of Operation DELTA SANITY II under the strategic direction of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, aimed to provide opportunities and life-changing information to the region’s young people. Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, commanding officer of FOB Escravos, emphasized the Navy’s commitment to fostering positive changes and building meaningful ventures within the Niger Delta communities.
“The initiative seeks to dissuade youths from illegal activities and steer them towards productive futures,” Okoloagu said. “Our goal is to demonstrate appreciation to our host communities and enhance the relationship we’ve built over the years.”
In collaboration with Kedahan Services Limited Training School, the Navy introduced youths to a wide array of career paths, business opportunities, and educational possibilities to broaden their horizons. The program’s ultimate aim is to displace criminal mindsets with positive, sustainable prospects, contributing to both personal growth and national development.
This outreach also included a health and educational program in Madangho Community, where residents received medical consultations, treated mosquito nets, eyeglasses, and educational materials like school bags and writing supplies. Okoloagu expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen the bond between the Navy and local communities, improving cooperation to eliminate illegal activities and boost Nigeria’s oil production.
Project Manager of Kedahan Services, Rosemary Imhnanwa, praised the Navy for this transformative gesture, highlighting its potential to change local perceptions. “This initiative shows the community that there are solutions to every challenge, and it’s about focusing on opportunities for betterment,” she said.
Community leaders like Mr. Solomon Uwawa from Madangho also expressed gratitude, hopeful that the career talks would help steer local youth towards a brighter, more prosperous future.
Along with Madangho, residents from Arunton, Ajudaigbo, and Ogidigben communities also participated in the life-changing event. This powerful initiative serves as a testament to the Navy’s dedication to fostering community growth, combating illegal activities, and paving the way for a more prosperous Nigeria.
