Osogbo, Nigeria – Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East in the National Assembly, says the new tax bills in Nigeria will help state and local governments perform better and serve the people more effectively.
In a statement shared by his media aide, Sam Segun-Progress, Fadahunsi said the bills would improve revenue generation and help deliver services at the grassroots level.
Fadahunsi: I Was Skeptical at First
The senator admitted that he was unsure about the bills when they were introduced. He explained that the negative reactions in the media made him question their purpose.
At first, I had doubts because of all the negative comments. But when I read the bills and listened to expert advice, I saw that they are truly beneficial, he said.
Better Funding for States and Local Governments
Fadahunsi said the tax reforms will give more financial power to lower levels of government. This means states and local councils will have more money to build roads, provide clean water, improve schools, and offer other vital services.
With more money, states and LGs can now meet the needs of their people. They will perform much better, he added.
Call for Transparency and Good Governance
The senator urged governors and council chairmen to be transparent and responsible with the new funds. He said accountability is key to making the most of the new tax laws.
This is a great opportunity. But we must make sure the money is used wisely, Fadahunsi advised.
Praise for Leadership
Fadahunsi also praised President Bola Tinubu for supporting the reforms. He applauded the FIRS Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, for his role in pushing the bills through public debate and scrutiny.
Dr. Adedeji was consistent and focused. He played a big role in getting these bills passed, Fadahunsi noted.
What This Means for Nigerians
If signed into law, the new tax bills in Nigeria could lead to better services, more job opportunities, and improved living standards, especially in rural and underserved communities.
