Lionel Messi is gearing up for his much-anticipated return to the pitch this Saturday, after being sidelined with a muscle strain. Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, confirmed on Friday that Messi is expected to make his comeback in Miami’s MLS showdown against the Philadelphia Union, marking his first appearance since March 16.
The soccer legend sustained the injury during a thrilling 2-0 victory over Atlanta United, where he not only played a full 90 minutes but also scored the opening goal. Unfortunately, this injury kept Messi out of action for Argentina during the international break, but after weeks of recovery, the 35-year-old is now ready to rejoin the team.
“Leo is good,” Mascherano said confidently. “God willing, and if nothing unusual happens, he will be included in the matchday roster.”
Mascherano went on to explain that the team has taken a careful, progressive approach to Messi’s rehabilitation, mindful of his importance and unique needs. “Leo is a very special player,” Mascherano noted. “He knows his body very well, and we’ve been slowly ramping up his training. Today, he’s expected to complete the full session, so everything looks promising.”
Midfielder Yannick Bright also shared insights into Messi’s recovery, revealing that the Argentine star has been training separately for most of the week but is getting closer to full fitness. “He trained with us for the first 15 minutes, but after that, it’s up to the coaches and medical team to decide,” Bright said.
The last time Messi faced the Philadelphia Union, he made an electrifying return from another injury and scored a stunning Goal of the Matchday. Now, as Inter Miami prepares for a crucial match against the top-ranked team in the East, Messi’s potential return could be the spark the team needs to stay ahead.
The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Apple TV—don’t miss what could be an unforgettable night of soccer action.
