Scott McTominay helped Napoli reach the top of Serie A on Saturday with a 1–0 win over Monza. But after the match, Napoli coach Antonio Conte shocked fans by criticizing club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis live on air.
McTominay Scores Again
The only goal came in the 72nd minute. McTominay scored with a strong header from Giacomo Raspadori’s cross. It was his 10th goal of the season and his third in a week.
The win put Napoli level on points with Inter Milan, who play Bologna on Easter Sunday. Napoli are now back in the title race, chasing their second league win in three seasons.
Conte Isn’t Happy
Despite the win, Conte looked upset. In a post-match interview, he spoke about his future and problems at the club.
You must live in the present. The fans want to win. I’m working for them, he said.
But if there are no resources, I’m not stupid.
Conte is unhappy about the sale of star player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January. He’s also frustrated with the poor condition of the training ground. He said bad pitches may have caused injuries, including one to new signing David Neres.
Owner Responds, Conte Fires Back
Earlier, club owner De Laurentiis said Conte should have waited until the end of the season to speak. But Conte didn’t agree.
When people hire me, they expect first or second place, not just European football, Conte said.
I can deal with pressure, but I need the right support.
Conte’s future at Napoli is now uncertain, even though the team has a strong chance to win the league.
Napoli Have the Easier Run
Napoli have five games left, and only one is against a top-half team (Torino). They also have no cup matches, giving them a clear path to focus on the league.
Inter, however, face a busy schedule. They play Bologna next, then have cup and Champions League games. If both teams finish level on points, a title play-off will decide the winner.
Como Close to Safety
In other Serie A action, Assane Diao scored twice to lead Como to a 3–0 win over Lecce. The win pushed Como 15 points clear of the drop zone.
Diao joined from Real Betis in January and now has eight goals. His performance is helping Como stay up in their first Serie A season in over 20 years.
Roma vs Verona Up Next
Later, Roma take on Verona. A win could bring them within two points of Juventus, who face Parma on Monday.
