In a major move that could bring relief to Nigerians at the pump, Dangote Refinery has once again reduced the price of petrol, bringing its ex-depot price down to N835 per litre.
This fresh cut marks a N30 reduction from the previous rate of N865 per litre just six days ago and N45 less than the N880 per litre price recorded last Wednesday. It also represents the third price slash by the refinery in under six weeks, signaling a consistent downward trend.
The new price was communicated to marketers early Wednesday through an official notice and a pro forma invoice. The adjustment was also verified via the industry monitoring platform, petroleumprice.ng. According to the notice, the N835 per litre price includes charges from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The development comes just a day after the landing cost of imported petrol dropped to N853 per litre on Tuesday, sparking speculation about a possible reduction.
To further boost the fuel supply across the country, marketers reportedly secured approval to import 117,000 metric tonnes of petrol (roughly 156.9 million litres) between April 8 and 16, 2025. This was confirmed through documents from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN).
With the local refinery pushing its prices downward and import volumes rising, industry watchers hope that a significant reduction in pump prices could follow soon.
