Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has taken to social media to call out popular gospel singer Tope Alabi over a dramatic birthday party incident that’s now making headlines across Nigeria.
According to reports, Lizzy’s fan club, in collaboration with her husband, organized a surprise birthday bash for the actress and reportedly paid ₦4 million to book Tope Alabi for a performance, knowing Lizzy was an avid admirer of the singer. But things took an unexpected turn when Tope and her husband Soji Alabi showed up at Lizzy’s Lagos boutique… and then refused to come inside or perform after realizing who the celebration was for.
Lizzy Anjorin’s Explosive Reaction
In a fiery video shared on her Instagram page, Lizzy did not hold back. She accused Tope of acting unprofessionally despite receiving full payment and even invoked their past friendship, reminding the singer of times she stood by her during difficult seasons—particularly during Tope’s controversial fallout with the late Prophet Ajanaku.
“Even if you were paid ₦500k, were you not once an actress? You act when told to kiss your enemy, so why can’t you perform for your fan? You’re a brand your husband built with an empty stomach, I will not destroy that, even with what you did,” Lizzy said.
“I Don’t Need You, Aunty Tope”
The actress clarified that, as a Muslim, she never expected a gospel artist to be invited to her party, suggesting that her fans should have opted for an Islamic singer. Lizzy also stressed that she would never personally pay Tope Alabi to perform, stating:
“I can play her music at home. The millions could’ve gone to people in hospitals or feeding the poor. I warned my fans about wasting money.”
Despite her outrage, Lizzy ended the video on a seemingly contradictory but emotional note:
“Aunty Tope, I love you, but I don’t need you.”
