Ahead of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilized 1,800 personnel across Kogi State to ensure a smooth and secure holiday for residents. This move is part of a nationwide effort to guarantee a peaceful and safe environment during the festive period.
DSC Abdullahi Aliyu, the Kogi State Public Relations Officer for NSCDC, shared the news in a statement released on Saturday in Lokoja. According to Aliyu, the decision to deploy the large number of officers was made following the approval of Kogi State’s NSCDC Commandant, Esther Akinlade, in alignment with the directives from NSCDC’s national leadership, led by Commandant General Ahmed Audi.
The deployment, aimed at maintaining tight security during the Eid celebrations, includes ensuring comprehensive coordination between Area Commanders and Divisional Officers. These officials have been instructed to mobilize their teams effectively, focusing on protecting critical national infrastructure, public spaces, and the safety of citizens. Aliyu quoted the State Commandant, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between all security agencies to ensure the safety of the public, adding, “Everyone must brace up to discharge their responsibilities conscientiously.”
In a bid to gather vital intelligence and prevent criminal activities, the NSCDC Commandant has directed all officers to engage with community stakeholders and conduct surveillance before, during, and after the festivities. The primary focus will be on high-traffic areas such as prayer grounds, worship centers, parks, markets, shopping malls, and other sensitive locations.
The NSCDC has also urged its officers to be vigilant at known black spots and critical installations, ensuring no stone is left unturned in maintaining security.
In the statement, Commandant Akinlade also extended her well wishes to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the globe, hoping for a peaceful Eid and praying for the prosperity and safety of the nation.
With 1,800 personnel on the ground, the NSCDC is leaving no room for security lapses, assuring residents of a safe and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
